We are about to enter a new era
of the Deep Sea research and are
witnessing one of the greatest paradigm shifts
and challenges in this field of research that mankind has ever faced.
With access to the research vessel ´Atlantis´, the deep sea submersible
´Alvin´ and exclusive HD underwater footage,
this documentary will take our audience to ocean depths of over 4,500
meters. We’ll uncover the mysteries of the deep sea and reveal
never before
seen creatures that surround this black abyss.
New forms of life are being discovered every year in the world’s
oceans but with advancing technology
also comes serious environmental repercussions. The film shows the
audience how our need for maritime ressources,
mixed with state of the art technology could be the biggest challenge
our oceans have ever faced.
Although the media’s attention has been on the discovery element of the
recent finds of creatures which we will explore as well, there is also another
issue that this film will expose, which is the current need to profit from the
maritime resources. We will focus on the deep sea drilling for oil which lead to
the disaster of ´Deepwater Horizon´ and on the new quest for mineral ores.
As Ron O’Dor, Senior Scientist of the Census of Marine Life
Project
puts it:
“Mankind is about to colonise the ocean - and there are important
decisions to make about how to deal with the resources of the deep
sea.
We have to find a scientific basis upon which we can rest these
decisions.”
The film will look at the chances and risks these
new technologies will bring along and gives us insight on how the
future of our planet is linked to the oceans.
